Nishant Chandgotia receives SERB startup grant
Nishant Chandgotia is a Reader at TIFR-CAM whose broad research interests lie in combinatorics, ergodic theory and probability. He has received the Startup Research Grant for the project titled "Tilings of the Zd lattice" from SERB for the period January 2023 to January 2025.
The main objectives of this project are to study various types of tilings of the Zd lattice. There are four subparts of this objective:
a) Prove a large deviations principle for the dimer model on the Zd lattice.
b) Prove a universality result of tilings by rectangles satisfying a natural coprimality conditions
c) Understand and study the cohomology of tiling spaces
d) Study tilings of Zd by a single shape
Nishant has already made some progress towards this direction. Along with Scott Sheffield and Catherine Wolfram, he has studied dimer tilings of the three dimensional lattice [1]. Further, they have fully understood cohomological triviality of graph homomorphisms of the Zd lattice. This is in joint work with S. Gangloff, B. Hellouin de Menibus and P. Oprocha and a preprint will be available soon.
