Abstract: In this talk I will first describe the theorem of Narasimhan and Seshadri on stable bundles on a compact Riemann surface. I will then outline a simple proof of the theorem. In broad terms the strategy of the proof is the same as that of Narsimhan and Seshadri; however we avoid the use deep results from the Kodaira-Spencer theory as also somewhat involved induction arguments on the rank of the vector bundles which fi8gure in their proof.
