Abstract:  For few years, fractional BV spaces have appeared as a new framework for studying the solutions of hyperbolic conservation laws. They widen the space of entropy solutions, capture the structure of shock waves as in BV, estimate the weak regularity of solutions as in Sobolev spaces. In this colloquium, we show how the space BV1/3 and BV1/2 provide a natural framework for the existence or the blow-up theory of solutions for a chromatography model.
