Abstract
Tilings of the Z^d lattice/R^d has a rich history with multiple perspectives coming from logic, statistical physics, and the theory of computation among others. This will mostly be an expository talk in which I will introduce some of these perspectives and some modern work surrounding them which have enthralled me and motivated my research. Time permitting I will discuss some of my recent work related to these questions which are joint with Tom Meyerovitch and with Spencer Unger and with Catherine Wolfram and Scott Sheffield.
