Abstract: In the mid 80's, Margulis solved a long standing conjecture of Oppenheim regarding quadratic forms. A key factor was an observation of Raghunathan, relating Oppenheim's conjecture to dynamics on the space of lattices. I will relate this story and explain some recent developments.
