Abstract: State-of-the-art of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can produce images at a temporal resolution of milli seconds which enables real-time visualization of complex physiological processes. However, a comprehensive quantitative understanding of the mechanisms that lead to MRI signal  alterations when imaging flowing objects or other dynamic processes is still lacking. This talk deals with the quantitative analysis of dynamic signal changes using modeling and numerical simulation of a modified Bloch equation which incorporates the effect of flow. After establishing the well-posedness of the corresponding evolution problem, possible numerical strategies will be discussed. Comparison of numerical results with some basic experiments will be shown as well.
