Abstract
A theorem of Sylvester states that a product of k >= 2 consecutive positive integers each exceeding k is divisible by a prime exceeding k. We shall give sharpening of these estimates and their extensions. Further I shall give applications of these estimates to irreduciblity of Laguerre polynomial. This is a joint work with Shanta Laishram and Saranya Nair.
