Title: Dirichlet boundary optimal control problem: from numerical perspective

Abstract: Dirichlet boundary optimal control problem is one of the important problems in optimal control theory and applications. In this talk, we discuss various variational formulations for the Dirichlet boundary optimal control problem and associated underlying difficulties in numerical approximation. We then discuss the energy space based formulation, its finite element approximation with error estimates and adaptive counterpart.

Speaker Bio: Thirupathi Gudi is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at IISc. His research primarily focuses on the development, analysis, and implementation of finite element based numerical methods for partial differential equations. In recent years, his work has focused on the numerical approximation of variational inequalities, optimal control problems, error estimates under minimal regularity, a posteriori error control for automatic adaptive mesh refinement, and its convergence.
