Abstract: The purpose of these lectures is to introduce the Boltzmann equation for the hard sphere gas and to explain its derivation via the BBGKY hierarchy. The emphasis is on elementary calculations so that the link between the particle model, its Liouville equation, and the kinetic equation are clear.
